Lissandra is a very versatile champion with a lot of utility, we will use all kinds of different summoner spells depending on the match-up/situation


4.png  - Must have spell on Lissandra as on most champions, can be used both offensive and defensive.
14.png - Standard mid lane spell, helps secure kills, reduces healing effects, must have against champions with healing spells (swain).
12.png - Alternative to your ignite, allows you to roam better, get back in your lane without losing cs, or joining fights in other lanes. Don't forget backdooring nexus

Quints: Ability power quints are the best option, they give a lot of early damage which Lissandra needs.

Marks: Magic penetration are pretty standard, another alternative would be hybrid penetration, especially in match-ups where you expect to harass with your auto-attacks.

Seals: Armor seals are must have for AD match-ups, Health or scaling health for AP, scaling health will equal flat hp at lv 6, which is usually where you will need it the most early on. Mana regen is not needed due to Lissandra's passive, which gives you a free spell. (Still not a reason to spam spells!)

Glyphs: Lots of options here
Flat MR works best against AP champions, especially if there might be early harass/all-ins
I normally don't use scaling MR because it beats flat MR later than I need it
AP or scaling AP against AD champs (equals on lv 6)
Flat CDR is an option for some match-ups
Scaling CDR is the most common rune currently

If you have the option of having multiple AP rune pages, you definately want to swap around and choose the one that fits your match-up / current game.


As of 4.20 minions don't have armor/mr so hybrid pen won't make any difference in last hitting

Ferocity

In Ferocity tree we take Sorcery over Fury because Lissandra's main source of damage are her spells.
Feast provides sustain in lane which is something we want to help us through the laning phase.

Natural talent - Scaling damage, a bit of extra burst is awesome if you're getting a free lane. Most of the lanes require you to take Vampirism for the added sustain, both on your spells & attacks.

Oppressor mastery is a huge benefit for Lissandra. It's the main reason for us to put 12 points in Ferocity. It gives a significant increase in damage to targets with impaired movement, and that means every time we hit Q,W or R on an enemy champion, we do extra damage.


Cunning

Wanderer may seem like a good mastery to spend our points on, but the movement speed out of combat is very small to make a difference. As an alternative we want our points in Savagery (because we're savage!). It makes a big difference in the early laning phase, helps us last hit, but most importantly makes us push the lane faster, allowing us to get a push advantage & an early level 2.

Secret Stash - Extra sustain on our potions, good pickup if we can't make good use of Assassin mastery, either by not having a lane where we can pressure a kill, or by not having a target we can isolate and assassinate in the late game.

Merciless gives us extra damage on low health targets, making it easier to finish off champions. More DPS in throughout the fights and bigger burst when looking to one-shot a squishy target. Meditation looks great, but sadly the mana regen is too small to make any difference in our game.

Dangerous game is awesome! Only reason we might have to not take it is if we expect no close fights in the whole game in which case Bandit comes in handy with a few extra golds in our pocket.

Precision makes us do more damage, especially early on and on targets with low Magic Resistance. However, if there are no such targets more cooldown reduction with Intelligence could be a better deal. I prefer to take Precision in lanes I want to pressure into a kill / games in which I know I can roam.

Thunderlord's Decree is the keystone we want on Lissandra - Easy to active in lane, in teamfights, in assassination attempts. 3 attacks or spells within 3 seconds dealing huge base damage plus scaling on AP makes it the prime choice.


Resolve

In certain lanes, more sustain goes a long way. That's the case where we want 0/18/12 set-up
Recovery, Tough skin and Veteran scars makes us harder to kill or push out of lane. 
I Prefer Insight over Perseverance since the sooner we have our summoners the sooner we can make a play happen.

lissandrapassive.png - Iceborn
Lissandra's passive gives her a free spell every 18 seconds. Impairing an enemy's movement with an ability reduces this cooldown by second. Since a spell is free - why not use it? This really helps Lissandra wave clear lanes for longer than most champions as she doesn't run out of mana so quickly. It's often a good idea to throw an Ice shard every time Iceborn is ready.

lissandraq.png - Ice Shard

The Q spell - Lissandra throws a shard of ice in a direction. If it hits an enemy, it shatters dealing damage to enemies behind the first in a cone, gaining extra range. A low cooldown spell which can hit an entire wave of minions, and perhaps an enemy champion who happens to be in the way. A great tool for waveclear, as well as poke. Ice Shard's range is 725, extending to 825 if the shard shatters. When the ice breaks, it makes a sound and an animation (similar to the sound of ice breaking) - allowing us to use this ability to scout over walls (checking enemy blue buff for example).

lissandraw.png - Ring of Frost

The W spell - Lissandra sends out a wave of ice around her, dealing damage to nearby enemies and rooting them.
Ring of frost's cast time is instantaneous, allowing her to cast this ability while moving. Having a 450 range on Ring of Frost forces Lissandra to be very close to the target.

lissandrae.png - Glacial Path

The E spell - Lissandra sends out an ice claw that deals damage to all enemies it passes through. Glacial path can be reactivated to teleport Lissandra to the claw's current location. The second use of Glacial path is considered a Blink, meaning it can not be interupted once we press E for the second time. However if Lissandra is stunned or unable to move, she will miss the chance to reactivate Glacial path. The range of Glacial path is 1050, and the projectile speed is 850 (the claw moves slowly). Galcial path's projectile (the claw) takes about 1.5 seconds to reach it's maximum range, and Lissandra has about 0.2 seconds more to blink after the claw sinks in to the ground.
The cooldown starts at the first cast. Enemies hit by the claw make an "Icy" sound - even stealthed units.

lissandrar.png - Frozen Tomb

The Ultimate (R) spell - Frozen Tomb can be cast both on an enemy champion and on Lissandra herself.
On Enemy Cast: Freezes target champion solid, stunning it for 1.5 seconds.
On Self Cast: Lissandra encases herself in dark ice for 2.5 seconds, healing, becoming untargetable and invulnerable but unable to take any actions. Dark ice then emanates from the target dealing magic damage to all enemies in the zone. The ice lasts for 3 seconds and slows enemy movement speed.

What do we max first?

Maxing Ice Shard (Q) first gives us most consistent damage, with the spell's low cooldown, making it our primary source of damage.

Ring of Frost (W) is a good spell to max out second, the root duration goes up as well as the spell's base damage, while the cooldown goes down. It provides more Crowd Control (CC) than maxing Glacial Path (E)

Glacial Path (E) is also a good spell to max out second, the cooldown goes down, and the damage does up. It provides more Wave clear than maxing Ring of Frost (W)

Frozen Tomb (R) is a spell we want to put a point it every time we can, which is at levels 6,11 and 16.


The level 2 trick - Can't decide which spell to take second? Don't put a point in anything until you decide to use a spell. Sometimes you'll find an opportunity to Flash into Ring of Frost (W) for a kill, and sometimes you'll need to take the Claw (E) to safety.

The one-shot combo- Found a squishy target? What now?
R>Q>E>W>Q (Ignite optional)

Why do we want to use spell in this order? 
This combo hold the target in place long enough for us to use Q at the start and another Q at the end of the rotation, giving maximum damage in shortest period of time. (Taking the Claw could be an escape plan sometimes).

3027.png ROA is a great scaling item, it's very strong right now. Good buy unless you need mana regen & CDR from 3165.png or MR from 3001.png, in which case buy these items instead. Sometimes it's good to have a combination of these items if it fits the game.


3089.png Rabadon's Deathcap is a core item on most mages, and it multiplies our AP giving us a lot more damage. The more AP we already have, the more it will give us. It's great as a later buy.

3135.png Void Staff is core on all magic damage dealers, as it will penetrate enemies' magic resistance, giving us even more damage. The more MR they have, the better Void Staff becomes.

3157.png Zhonya's Hourglass is a great item on Lissandra. It allows us to deny enemies' burst and blow their cooldowns when we need to get close to them. It's often a good idea to combine the active with Lissandra's ultimate (Frozen Tomb) - we can be invulnerable for up to 5 seconds, long enough for our team to follow up on the engage. When we're out, we'll most likely be out of danger.

3158.png - Ionian boots of lucidity are a really great item right now, due to it's low cost, and the unique effect of reducing summoner spell cooldowns

3020.png - Sorcerer's shoes give flat Magic Penetration. It gives Lissandra quite a bit of early damage, as her spell will do close to true damage on low MR targets.


3102.pngBanshee's Veil is our go-to defensive item, it allows Lissandra to block 1 spell which can be of great values when she needs to engage and not get hit by crowd control spells.

Your first buy all depends on how much gold you back with - It's often a good idea to farm up for a 1058_32.png first - but this doesn't mean you need to upgrade it first. It gives you a lot of early damage, sort of a power spike.

3108_32.png is often a good first buy. However on 900g, it's sometimes better to buy 1056.png+1052.png
A second 1076_32.png if you have to go back early.

3191_32.png - Against AD mids, helps to get it early as it will stack up and be more effective.
 1057_32.png - Great against kill pressure lanes which deal magic damage. It will delay champions like Leblanc from their 100-0 burst, meaning they'll need more items before they'll be able to all-in Lissandra.

3041.png - Mejai's soulstealer is a snowballing item, the more kills we get, the better it becomes. However, if we die, it loses value. Buy at your own risk.

Ahri is a pretty even match-up. Wave clear is even on early levels. Try to dodge the RETURN of her ahriorbofdeception.png as it does true damage on the way back. Remember, her passive gives her health, our passive gives us mana.

Any item works as first, I prefer rushing 1057.png into 3001.png. Or 3165.png after the cloak.

Easy

Akali is an easy champion to counter. Harass her early in lane by auto-attacking every time she walks up to take a CS, or by landing your lissandraq.png.

At level 6, she may try to all-in you. Use Frozen Tomb lissandrar.png on yourself to deny her burst & restore some health.
Pink ward trick - When Akali is hiding in herakalismokebomb.png, drop a pink ward inside, you'll find her!
3001.png is a good item to rush in this match-up

Anivia

Medium

Anivia may seem like a hard champion to deal with. She has more range than Lissandra and more burst at early levels. Try to avoid her flashfrost.png if anyhow possible. Until level 6, you have the wave clear advantage. After level 6, she may try to talk up, use glacialstorm.png+frostbite.png for a quick trade. Don't let her!

I prefer to rush 3165.png in this match-up, but 3027.png may be better in some games.

Annie

Medium

Annie is simple. You can click on her to see how many stacks of her passive she has. It's easy to play around the stun then. If you do happen to get stunned, Annie wins the trade since you can't damage her back.

Azir

Hard

Azir has more range, more wave clear & more DPS than Lissandra. Not the greatest match-up for us. Lissandra can still farm from safe distance.

Hard

Hard match-up. Brand has a lot of poke, and Lissandra can't trade with him unless he blows his cooldowns. Try to keep your distance as best as you can. His kill potential is very high after level 6. I'd recommend 3001.png.

Cassiopeia

Medium

Cassiopeia is annoying to play against, she has a lot of trading potential if her poison lands. All we can do is farm as safely as we can, clear waves with lissandraq.png. If Lissandra gets caught out & poisoned, she losses half hp.

3027.png Rod of Ages works here since we don't need MR nor high mana regen for wave clear.
You can bait her into a bad fight by going in with lissandrae.png and immediately turning away not to get stunned by cassiopeiapetrifyinggaze.png.

Corki

Medium

Corki mid is very popular right now, short trades are good trades in this case. We'll need a lot of wave clear here, I prefer to build 3165.png. Be careful for Special delivery after he has picked up his package. He comes back to lane very fast, overstaying may be risky.

Diana

Easy

Diana is short ranged so she's very easy to poke down in lane. Use that to get a CS advantage so after first back, we'll have an item advantage. 3001.png is a good buy so she can't burst us down.

Ezreal

Easy

Ezreal has no wave clear, Lissandra can push him to tower easily. 3165.png is a great item here for constant wave clear. 

lissandrae.png on maximum rank has a lower cooldown than ezrealarcaneshift.png. We can use that to outplay Ezreal - Lissandra goes in, Ezreal jumps out. Next rotation ezrealarcaneshift.png will be on cooldown for long enough to use lissandrar.png.

Fizz

Easy

Fizz is very easy to lane against. Lissandra is a great containment pick into him. Auto-attack him every chance you get. At level 6, he may want to all-in Lissandra, but we can use lissandrar.png to deny his fizzmarinerdoom.png. (maybe even fizzjump.png if he combines the 2).

1029.png2003.pngx5 is a good start here. Gnar can be a real bully in lane. Try to poke him through the creep wave as he'll have a hard time dealing with both you & the minions. Be careful for his first transformation as we won't have our lissandrar.png yet. At level 6 lissandrar.png can be used to deny most of his spells.

Easy

Karthus match-up is a real farm fest. There's not a whole lot to worry about, he can't do much against Lissandra, neither can she pressure Karthus. 3165.png is a good pick-up here for. Even 3070.png+3027.png can work against him.

Don't let him Q you in lane (don't even trade Q for Q -- he will have shield)
Poke through minions, don't overextend after 6.
Take advantage of his cooldowns.
Clicking on Kassadin will show his forcepulse.png stacks. Try not to fight him when it's up, or will be up during the fight.

Katarina is an easy match-up. Short range, easy to push into tower, as well as zone away from CS. lissandrar.png stops deathlotus.png

You can't kill her, don't let her push you in.
Her judicatorintervention.png has a  shorter cooldown than lissandrar.png until level 16.
Rush 3165.png, keep farming until there's a chance to roam

Lissandra has 25 more range on both Q and AA, use it.
You can use lissandraw.png to catch Leblanc when she uses leblancslide.png and winning the trade since she'll be in your minion wave.

Remember to adapt your runes - Flat Health yellows work great here because they help Lissandra survive, and work well with MR blues.

Hard

Lulu has more range and more wave clear, it's pretty hard to trade with her since she also has a shield. A difficult lane to win. Try to dodge luluq.png as best as you can. Remember, lulue.png used on a minion shoots another luluq.png.

Try to position yourself away from your creep wave, this way you force Lux to choose from using luxlightstrikekugel.png on Lissandra or the minions.

At level 6 you can use lissandrar.png on yourself to deny luxmalicecannon.png.
3165.png or 3027.png work as a first item.

Malzahar

Medium

Malzahar can push lanes very fast & at very low cost with his alzaharmaleficvisions.png.

It's mostly a farm lane with the push being on his side. After level it get's interesting. His alzaharnethergrasp.png is instant cast while Lissandra's lissandrar.png has a short cast time when used on the enemy champion. Build 3001.png if you even plan to trade with him. His kill potential gets quite high as he gets more items. He can 4.png into alzaharnethergrasp.png and Lissandra gets 1 shotted.

Try to freeze the lane and farm, trading doesn't really favor either side.
I like to play with 12.png in this match-up as there's no real kill pressure from either side. Orianna can easily block lissandraq.png damage with her orianaredactcommand.png.
Remember you can use lissandrae.png to dodge orianadetonatecommand.png if It's used while your claw is in air.

I like to rush 3191.png
To win the trade, Lissandra must root Riven with lissandraw.png before Riven is in range for rivenmartyr.png.
Keep track of her cooldowns, she will shield when going for a cs

Ryze is very hard to play against unless we pay close attention to his passive stacks. At 5 stacks his spell will reduce their own cooldowns when used. Better to avoid trading when it's up.

Don't go all in unless your combo will 1-shot him
I prefer using 12.png in this match-up as we can't really kill Ryze (unless he does something very wrong)

Swain's swainshadowgrasp.png is the spell we really want to avoid.
14.png is great against swain as it also reduces the healing from his swainmetamorphism.png.
Build 3165_32.png unless you get early kills.
Don't fight him after he has 3027.png
His swaintorment.png+swainbeam.png will take half your health early on, don't lose it for free

Syndra outranges Lissandra, but has no escapes.

2043.png allows you to see Talon after he uses talonshadowassault.png.
He is easy to poke in lane, but he can still get a lot of farm with his talonrake.png.
Remember - talonnoxiandiplomacy.png is an auto attack reset.

Dodge the wildcards.png, don't let him get a card on you, go in when pickacard.png is on cooldown.
Farm lane unless he plays aggressive.
After level 6, it's a good idea to warn your sides lanes that TF can use destiny.png to gank them. It's often good to put a ward in the middle of the lane to see which side he walks to, so we can follow him.

Be careful of his vladimirsanguinepool.png when trying to all in him. 
Trading lissandraq.png for Transfusion favors him.
You can use lissandrar.png on yourself to deny his vladimirhemoplague.png.
Look out for summoner spells, he can run few different things

Volibear is easy to poke down in lane with lissandraq.png. However he's very hard to kill due to his passive healing him up when he gets low. Be careful of his volibearq.png.
Harass him, but never let him flip you over. He runs very fast, use lissandraw.png when he comes close.

Xerath

Medium
Try to push him into his tower, go back when you have a chance
Dodge/sustain his poke, go in if he misses his xerathmagechains.png.
He is pretty easy to set up for a gank, all we need is xerathmagechains.png to be on cooldown.

Yasuo

Easy
3.png Pop his passive with auto attack (but don't take minion dmg)
Your lissandraw.png stops his dash, use lissandraq.png when his shield is down

Be extremly careful is the enemy jungler has a knock up, Vi/Nautilus have an easy kill in the mid lane, and many others who would flash for it, like Gragas.

Dealing with Junglers Back to Top

How to stay safe from ganks & survive the laning phase?

First, you'll want to play safe, and ward key places to keep you safe even while playing aggressive.
Playing safe does not mean being ready to quickly burn your flash when a gank comes, but instead to be prepared that you could be ganked at any time given (as long as enemy jungler is missing)

As lissasndra, it's always a good idea to ward the enemy raptors, if their jungler comes with low hp, you can hop over the wall & get a kill (Your E can go from the riven to raptors)

A good first ward is the crossing from their raptors to the river, place it close to the wall so it's out of range in case there's a pink ward above their red.

In general, you'll want to have as many wards out as you can afford, including a pink ward.

2043_32.png - Placing this one depends on how the game is going, if you're playing more defensive, put it in the bush above your red buff, if you're more focused on roaming & controling the river, put it in one of the "death" bushes.
(be aware of your team's wards, don't place it if it's already there. If you see your support carrying a pink ward, use your on the top side of the map etc...)

In lower elo, you can be more careless with your pink ward as it's less likely to get cleaned out, if you feel this is the case, feel free to ward the enemy's red, or deep in their jungle - the bush between blue & wolves - the bush before red buff etc...

When a dragon / baron is coming up, place wards around it
When you're siegeing a tower/inhib , hop a ward over the wall (preferably out of tower range so it doesn't get killed )






Early Game Back to Top

Lissandra has a decent laning phase, being able to bully any short range champion, saving mana with passive, and escaping ganks with Glacial Path (E).

She can set up gets very well, using Ring of Frost (W) and possibly Glaicla Path forward.

As a Lissandra player, your goal in this phase is to sneak your Ice Shard (Q) through minion waves and damage your opponent. Still, your #1 goal in the lane is to farm. It may take some practice to balance out harrasing and farming.

Once you hit level 6, you should be looking to turn your ultimate into a kill, unless you're forced to use it on yourself.

Always keep your eyes open for a chance to roam, Lissandra is very good at ganking other lanes. (Make sure to hide your claw marker when possible)

Once people start grouping in your lane, that's usually the end of this phase.

Mid Game Back to Top

Lissandra's mid game power spike is fairly strong, once your core items are completed. Your team could be either sieging towers, pushing side lanes, fighting over dragon... 


Lissandra's siege potential is fairly weak (due to short range), but her ability to dive towers is excellent - keep in mind using your ultimate on yourself will drop tower aggro.
Pushing side lanes is always good on Lissandra, with a lot of waveclear and high mobility you can keep lanes pushed and be there for every teamfight.
Dragon fight - Lissandra's strong point, lots of AOE damage & CC. Set up vision around the dragon pit (yes, buy wards), and be ready for a teamfight, don't blow your spells on the dragon, wait & look for an opportunity to quickly delete their carries. If your team is not the one fighting dragon, look to land your ultimate on as many people as you can inside the dragon pit. (Don't engage unless your team can follow up.)

Late Game Back to Top

This is where Lissandra will either fall off, or win the game. If you have been farming up and got a few kills along the way, you will have enough damage to delete their squshies in one combo. If you can, don't be afraid to flash for it, if E+flash will get their adc in range of Frozen Tomb (R) use it. The fight instantly becomes a 5v4.

However, if you were shut down early, and you still haven't completed 4 items, you damage will fall off and it won't be enough for a kill. This is where your job is to protect your adc (or whoever has the most damage). Use your CC on anyone who tries to dive for your carries

Tip #1 - Make a hotkey for self-ultimate. (I use T)


Tip #2 - You can refresh homeguard using your E. (Gets you to inner tower)

Tip #3 - You can hide your claw marker (E) in terrain, trees etc. (video coming soon)  - 5.4 no longer possible

Tip #4 - Your E can go over 2 walls in some places.

Tip #5 - You can check bushed / behind walls with your Q - watch if the shard breakes.


Here's several tips on general play, how to improve as a player, not specific to Lissandra or any champion/role.
(even though it says "pro tips", these are just regular tips)

#1 Take smart risks - This applies to stealing jungle camps while enemy team could be in the area / splitpushing without having vision of the enemy etc. (This is especially important when playing against more skilled players than yourself)

#2 Focus on objectives - Always keep in mind what your next objective is, dragon / baron coming up, side lane pushing etc, predict which objective teams could fight over, because when they do, you don't wanna be on the other side of the map, know that an inhibitor is worth more than a kill

#3 Optimize your build - If you fall behind & simply don't have as much gold as you expect, go straight for the items you need. Pay attention to what your team / the enemy team is building. (Do you really need a void staff? - Does your team already have an abyssal scepter?)

#4 Think as the enemy - Try to predict what the other team would do, where their jungler could be, which lane would could be ganked, keep track of global spells, how they use their escape / dodge skillshots etc. This is extremely important as being at the right place at the right time can turn the game around.

Morellonomicon gives more gold efficient combat stats, and a bigger power spike when completed.

Frost queen's claim can be completed earlier due to not being cheaper but also having gold generation in it's build path. The constant GP10 paired with the active makes this a superior scaling item.

If we do build ROA as a first item, scaling is what we want, not an early power spike.

    • Mana cost reduced to 50 from 70
    • Fixed a bug where the root failed to apply if Lissandra died

    • Cooldown now begins upon initial cast rather than upon recativation or at the end of the missile
  • Frozen Tomb
    • Self-cast duration increased to 2.5 seconds from 1.5
    • Slow increased to 20 / 30 / 40% from 20% at all levels
    • Damage reduced to 150 / 250 / 350 from 150 / 300 / 450
